:: My View on Abortion ::

Abortion has always been a hot political issue. Many will say that abortion is OK because the abortion is not killing a person, but a fetus. At four months the fetus becomes human. I find this to be quite disturbing and extremely inaccurate. I cannot see how a person can say that a fetus is just a fetus one instant, and then magically gains humanity the instant the fetus turns four months old. If one crushes a seed, hasn’t he/she killed the life in that seed, just like abortion smoothers the life of an unborn child? If one states that a fetus after four months is human, is it not a human the split second before four months, and also a human just after its first cells split? I say yes, it is a human. And if it is a human, how can one have the right to take away his/her life?

Our United States Government is allowing the senseless murder of unborn children all the time. I can accept an abortion if the case dictates that the health of the unborn child and or mother is in serious jeopardy. I do not believe that any person should be able to make that decision but the mother. It should be a personal choice between the expectant mother and God. I must say, I wouldn’t want to ever have to make that decision. These types of circumstances are the only time that I believe an expectant mother should be granted the choice of having an abortion. As the legislation stands, though, practically any expectant mother can have an abortion for any reason.

Many times I have heard of persons having abortions because they just got pregnant. These females, usually, were just having sex for fun and accidentally, a pregnancy occurred. Some were planning on having a baby, but because of financial or social reasons, decided to get rid of the burden. I cannot see how any person could even consider these thoughts with a clear conscience. It is the same as killing a son, daughter, brother, sister, or any other just because he/she is a burden to you that you do not want. I do not believe that these abortions should be allowed at all. It is smothering a fetus’ chance to life in the name of personal gain.

Another tough issue of abortion, for me, is when a pregnancy occurs because of a man raping a woman. I personally believe that the woman, in this case, should bear the fruit of her womb. If there are no medical reasons for having an abortion, the mother could set the child up for adoption, or raise the child. I know it must be seen as a burden to bear a child that the mother didn’t plan, but was forced to. The way I look at it is that two wrongs don’t make a right. I hope that this reason for abortion will quickly disappear, but through these times, the decision must be made.

Many people will strongly attack my stance on abortion because they believe that it should be the mothers choice, because this is a free country. People who believe in this philosophy are saying that taking a life should not be regulated. If this is true, why aren’t there people defending the Uni-bomber or any other murderer saying that it was his choice and no one can punish him/her, because this is a free country. These two philosophies are one in the same. If we are allowed, and practically forced, to regulate the killings of humans and even wild animals, how can we neglect to protect and defend the life of unborn children? It just doesn’t make sense, how our government handles abortion. It is treated like stepping on an insect; it is just accepted as one of life’s practices. That is truly unacceptable. If nothing else, I would like to see the end of the senseless killings of unborn children for personal gains.
