:: Dealing with Pedophiles ::

Dealing with pedophiles in the Catholic Church has been taking up a lot of space in the media lately. This outburst in finger pointing is the latest attack on the Catholic Church. The Church has had a problem with their priests abusing children and then the hierarchy not taking adequate steps to stop and prevent this problem. This, recently, has been exposed to the media and has caused a firestorm for the Church. So, as you may know, the Church held a meeting on this subject and adopted a no tolerance policy. This means that a priest could commit or possibly just be accused of a pedophiliac act and get the boot. Now, the thing is that it has been said that the Church is covering up a lot of these crimes against children and even allowing some priests to flee the country. This type of a situation has a somewhat simple solution. All reports of abuse should be reported to the proper authorities and an investigation should be preformed and then a proper and fair sentence should be served, to the offender, by both the state and the Church. This pedophilia is an illness that must not go untreated. Overreaction of a party will not help the problem go away; fair investigations must be made before one is labeled a pedophile. With the help of counseling, just punishments, and preventative actions, this problem can be solved quickly and effectively. This is not a problem with just the Catholic Church, and all churches should address this problem properly, or else we may not ever be able to solve this problem. A united response is what will solve this problem: prevention, counseling, justice, and forgiveness.
