When the Social Security system was first set up, its goal was to give aid to the people over 65 that couldn’t afford food and or medications. At that time, this was sorely needed. This was the time just after the depression, under the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt. I do believe that Social Security was a good idea, and should still be active, but in a different way. I see no reason in sending the same amount of Social Security to a retiree receiving a hundred thousand-dollar pension as to an eligible worker who is falling more and more behind each month. I believe there should be a pay curve for social security recipients, so that it can accomplish what it was set up for, helping the elderly who need help. I see no reason for sending large amounts of money to people who need no more money to survive. The funds of the Social Security system need to be reformed to help those who need it. We should give more to those who need it, and less to those who don’t. That way, we should be able to reduce the systems debt and help more, more effectively. |
